SmartWatt Energy's Alyssa Wingenfield Named ASHRAE's New Face of Engineering

SCRANTON, Pa., April 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Alyssa Wingenfield, PE, LEED AP BD+C, an Account Executive in SmartWatt Energy's Mid-Atlantic Region, was recently named one of DiscoverE's 2015 New Face of Engineering winners. She was nominated for this prestigious award, which recognizes the outstanding talents, skills and abilities of our next generation of engineering leaders (age 30 or younger), by ASHRAE.

Alyssa was recognized for her commitment to furthering a sustainable world through design and energy conservation projects for commercial buildings. In DiscoverE's video "Breaking Stereotypes About Women," she shares, "Sometimes people assume that I might be a secretary, but on the flip side, being a female engineer has a lot of advantages. I get to know people quite quickly and I'm able to stand out." Alyssa's designs have won Green Building Awards and her biomass boiler research was published in the Journal of Energy Engineering.

She has assisted schools, municipalities and other organizations in securing approximately $3.5 million in grants, low interest loans and utility rebates to help subsidize renewable technology installations such as geothermal, biomass boilers, solar photovoltaic and solar thermal heating systems. Alyssa holds a bachelor's of architectural engineering degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
