SmartWatt Energy Completes Major Sustainability Project for Snyder's-Lance at Cape Cod® Potato Chips Production Facility in Hyannis, MA

ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SmartWatt Energy recently completed a major sustainability project for snack food manufacturer Snyder's-Lance, Inc. at their Cape Cod® Potato Chip production facility in Hyannis, MA.  By removing pollutants from the air, this integrated energy efficiency project will have the same effect on the environment as planting 85.4 acres of trees, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations.

The project began with a full-building energy audit of all mechanical systems at their 30,000 square foot facility by engineering teams from SmartWatt, a national energy-efficiency contracting firm headquartered in Ballston Lake, NY. The integrated energy-efficiency project included retro-commissioning of the existing energy management system, additional controls for the existing energy management system, the integration of all HVAC components in the existing energy management system, and the installation of new dampers, motors and space thermostat controls on the building's air compressor system. The SmartWatt team also provided detailed on-site training for associates, which included proper operating sequence and set points for the newly added mechanical equipment. Technical software use training, advanced programming training and troubleshooting training were also provided. Training was focused on empowering local teams to maximize energy savings in house, on an ongoing basis.

Mechanical system upgrades resulted in annual energy reductions of 63,037 therms and 151,068 kWh. The project is expected to save the plant more than $77,000 per year in electric and natural gas costs and should pay for itself in two and a half years.
