AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- SmartDrive Systems, a leader in video-based safety and transportation intelligence, today announced that Jeremy Byrd, SmartDrive regional sales manager, has been selected to participate in American Trucking Associations (ATA) esteemed LEAD ATA. A year-long industry leadership program, LEAD ATA is designed to engage and shape the best and brightest of the trucking industry, preparing them to become tomorrow's leaders. Byrd is the only technology solution provider associate chosen for the 2019 class.
Based on his extensive experience in, and passion for, commercial trucking, Byrd will join other up-and-coming industry professionals, building on their real-world experience and gaining in-depth insights about timely and emerging industry topics not readily available outside of the program. By selecting a diverse group of candidates, LEAD ATA represents the many different segments, regions and fleet sizes that comprise the trucking industry. LEAD ATA participants are exposed up-close to the inner workings of government and politics, and how both directly affect their company's business.
"I have always had a passion for trucking—safety specifically," commented Byrd. "Having grown up in the industry, I was exposed to "big trucks" at a very young age and fell in love. I was a Senate page in high school and a Senate intern while in college. These experiences resulted in my early interest in politics, which led to my interest in ATA, Washington and the intersection of government, politics and trucking." LEAD ATA participants are exposed to the regulatory and legislative process and how it directly affects their company's business.
Byrd joined SmartDrive in January 2015 and is the Southeast regional sales manager. He previously held positions including fleet/terminal manager, safety manager and safety technology sales representative in a variety of companies within the trucking industry. A member of the South Carolina Trucking Association's Technology and Maintenance Council and prior member of the Association's Future Leaders Board, Byrd also served as chairman of Cox Industries' Lean Manufacturing Committee. He attended the University of South Carolina and earned a Certified Director of Safety and Regulatory Compliance from the University of Central Florida and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (Kaizen) from Villanova University.
"We are thrilled that Jeremy was selected to participate in the program, and pleased to have this additional opportunity for SmartDrive to support the industry through the ATA," commented Steve Mitgang, SmartDrive CEO. "Transportation is vital to a robust economy, and this program is essential to developing the next generation of leaders in the rapidly changing business and technology environment. Jeremy will lend his perspective from safety, technology and transportation intelligence to LEAD ATA discussions."
