SAN DIEGO, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SmartDrive Systems, a leader in driving performance solutions that reduce collisions and improve fuel efficiency, today congratulates customer Nussbaum Transportation (Nussbaum) on the recognition of its implementation of the SmartDrive® system as one of the 2017 Supply & Demand Chain Executive (SDCE) 100, an annual list of great supply chain projects. The SDCE 100 honors the most innovative and successful projects in the supply and demand chain industry, and ranks Nussbaum's use of the leading video-based safety and analytics solution in the logistics/ transportation category.
"Nussbaum exemplifies the spirit of the SDCE 100, leading the pack with its measurable operational improvements tied to adoption of the SmartDrive SmartIQ™ Transportation Intelligence Suite," said Steve Mitgang, SmartDrive CEO. "We are honored to be partnered with a company at the forefront of transportation safety and fuel efficiency."
Since adopting the SmartDrive system in 2015, Nussbaum has tracked CSA Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category (BASIC) score improvements of nearly 73 percent in the "crash indicator" category. The fleet's "unsafe driving" score is the lowest it has been in two years, its safety score has improved, and fuel consumption and insurance costs have both been reduced.
Nussbaum leverages the SmartDrive video-based safety platform and SmartIQ Transportation Intelligence Suite, a solution that transforms massive volumes of data generated by commercial fleets into real-time actionable information. The use of SmartIQ Streams, which are feeds of driver, vehicle and driving performance data collected by the SmartDrive video analytics platform, in concert with its own custom-built software has led to notable outcomes. The company captures real-time data from the truck's engine control module (ECM)—including g-force, time spent at different speed intervals and throttle usage; aggregates this information with following distance observations from the SmartDrive system; and adds points for weather events by cross-referencing a database of past truck locations to a national temperature database. The resulting driver scores measure smooth driving, speed management, throttle usage and space management. These serve as the foundation for safety coaching and support fuel management initiatives.
"We're extremely honored to be included in Supply & Demand Chain Executive's 2017 list of best supply chain initiatives and proud that our collaboration with the SmartDrive team has been recognized," said Jeremy Stickling, director of human resources and safety at Nussbaum. "The quality, depth, and real-time metrics delivered by the SmartDrive program provide insights that other transportation platforms simply cannot deliver. The result is that we have been able to break new ground that is driving bottom line results for our business and safety of our fleet."
The annual SDCE 100 uses an online application process to gather information on supply chain transformation projects including the objectives, scope, timeline and results of the project. The submissions are evaluated by the magazine's editorial staff, primarily based on: ambitiousness/scope of the project, creative application of technologies/solutions/services used, extent of the business results/impact and clarity of submission.
