Smartcool Provides Update of Testing for Introduction to Refrigerated Transportation Sector

APPROXIMATELY 20% SAVINGS RECORDED IN PHASE 1 TEST

VANCOUVER, Aug. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. (TSX-V: SSC) is pleased to provide an update on the beta testing initiative announced on July 8, 2014, with a Florida-based food distribution firm.  The goal of this phase is to determine the impact of the Smartcool technology on compressor optimization.

The Smartcool technology was installed on a refrigerated trailer, which is part of the fleet operated by the food distribution firm.  Data has been collected to determine the amount of savings in the run time of the compressor when controlled by the Smartcool system.   Over the period consistent savings of approximately 20% were achieved.

As the compressor of refrigerated transport is driven by an independent diesel engine with its own supply source, the next phase of testing is to install a calibration flow meter to measure the supply and return flow rates of the diesel throughout the system. This measurement is required to determine fuel consumption with and without Smartcool technology optimizing compressor efficiency.  As data is collected, the gallon per hour savings will determine what the economic metrics for this new energy saving initiative within the industry.

Statistics from the American Trucking Association indicate that the industry as a whole consume 52.3 billions gallons of fuel annually which 70% of that being diesel or $142.7 billion in cost to operators.  Fuel is one of the largest expenses for the industry.  Using refrigerated transport as a subset representing 20% of the industry, the potential savings generated by Smartcool technology is substantial.

The goal of this phase of testing is to complete a report verifying the impact of the Smartcool technology on diesel consumption (gallons per hour saved) within the refrigerated food trailer segment, available for review by mid-September.  This report will then form the basis for the rollout with the Florida based food distribution firm.

Smartcool also plans to introduce this opportunity to its existing worldwide distribution network, as the refrigerated market is significant around the world.
