Smartcool Energy Efficiency Project Receives Substantial Financial Incentive from Massachusetts Utility
VANCOUVER, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. (TSX-V: SSC) is pleased to provide details of a utility rebate-winning project completed by SmartACR, a successful new distribution partner in the USA. Rebates worth $50,000 were issued by National Grid, under the terms of the Large Business Existing Facility Incentives Program, marking a major milestone for Smartcool's products in gaining recognition as reliable, long-term energy saving solutions.
Smartcool products were installed to cut the energy consumption of the air conditioning and refrigeration systems at Traditional Breads in Lynn, Massachusetts. The large commercial bakery has seen annual energy savings of 264,723 kWh from the 18 Smartcool ECO3 units and 2 ESM units installed by SmartACR in its 83,177square foot facility.
"Independent verification showed that we were achieving energy savings of 14.8% of the total electricity used by the facility, without any disruption to 'business as usual' for Traditional Breads. These superb results were the basis for our application to receive a rebate against the cost of the project to our customer," explains Paul Gregory, CEO of SmartACR.
Veris power meters were installed to monitor the energy consumption of the compressors in the cooling systems. Data was collected and analyzed using Obvius Acquisuite data loggers, confirming that the ECO3 and ESM were actively saving energy without any impact on temperature or humidity conditions. This data gave SmartACR the proof of energy savings it required to pursue substantial rebates from the utility.
"National Grid is one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world, and we are excited to have our products recognized as effective energy saving measures by a utility of this stature," says George Burnes, President and CEO of Smartcool. "Our typical projects achieve a return on investment in 12 to 36 months; the capacity to win rebates from utilities can shorten this payback period significantly. This helps Smartcool's products retain a competitive edge, particularly in an economic climate where large capital expenditures may still not be possible for many businesses."
"The project proposal from SmartACR was compelling, both from a financial perspective and in its ability to help us reduce our carbon footprint," says Fitzroy Alexander, President of Traditional Breads. "The fact that we have received a substantial rebate from National Grid for this project reaffirms our belief that the installation of Smartcool products by SmartACR has been one of the smartest energy saving measures we could have taken, and we are seeing an immediate and significant financial benefit."
