FRAMINGHAM, Mass., April 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rave Mobile Safety (Rave), the trusted partner for campus and public safety, today announced the rapid national expansion of Smart911 continues, with Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) across all regions of the country deploying the public safety service in the first quarter of 2015. Smart911 brings added protection to citizens by enabling emergency responders to arrive at the right location more quickly and with the right resources.
This quarter, Forrest County (Miss.) became first in their state to deploy the public safety service. Other locations recently adding Smart911 include: Charleston County (S.C.), Paradise Valley (Ariz.), Cedar Park (Texas), Belmont (Mass.), Autauga County (Ala.), and the counties of Muskegon and Montcalm (Mich.). As a result, Smart911 has expanded its national footprint to covering parts of 40 U.S. states.
Public safety officials are embracing Smart911 for the assistance it provides to both citizens and emergency responders. According to Belmont's Police Chief, Richard McLaughlin: "We take great pride in providing the best available resources to enhance safety in our community. By utilizing this technology, our citizens are now able to give us the information we need to better help them during a time of great distress, when communicating even the simplest of details can be difficult."
Smart911 is a communications and additional data platform, providing 9-1-1 centers unique capabilities to better connect with citizens. Amongst its many features, it allows citizens to create a free Safety Profile online for their household that includes information they want 9-1-1 and response teams to have in the event of an emergency. When a citizen makes an emergency call, the Safety Profile automatically displays to the 9-1-1 call-taker, providing important details they would not have known otherwise that can save invaluable time and lives. Fire crews can arrive on-scene knowing how many people live in a home and location of bedrooms. EMS can know about allergies or specific medical conditions for fast, precise treatment. Police can have the photo of a missing child in seconds rather than hours and be aware of any "dangerous acquaintances."
"Smart911 provides our residents and visitors with a way to be more proactive about their family's safety," said Forrest County Telecommunications Supervisor, Jim Hennessey. "The time of an emergency can be very chaotic and panicked. By giving these individuals the ability to provide details that 9-1-1 and response teams may need prior to an emergency, our teams can act faster and with better information to assist them. We are proud to be the first location in Mississippi to offer this service to our residents."
Smart911 is quickly deployed and operates on nearly all PSAP technology combinations. From rescuing victims of medical emergencies and house fires to thwarting home invasions to helping stranded motorists, Smart911 has been credited with saving lives and averting tragedies throughout the U.S.
"Public Safety leaders across the country see the value provided by Smart911," said Tom Axbey, CEO of Rave Mobile Safety. "They want to provide residents with the best-possible emergency response and it's gratifying to see these leaders advocate for the use of Smart911 so strongly. As we're brought into these communities, we can provide a new tool that supports those on the front-lines – emergency responders – like never before. This is a truly successful public-private partnership, and it's all with a mutual goal of improving the safety of citizens."
