DALLAS, Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Smart City Networks, the nation's leading provider of technology services for the convention industry, has announced the completion of a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) designed to exponentially expand the cellular service coverage and capacity at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD). Smart City partnered with Dallas-based AT&T to design and build the DAS at the venue.
"This new system is going to make a noticeable difference for everyone who attends an event at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas," said Mark Haley, President of Smart City Networks. "This upgrade, combined with our wireless network investment, reiterates our commitment to deliver exceptional experiences through technology in Dallas."
AT&T provided a 12-sector neutral host system with the ability to distribute Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint signals as well. Designed to cover all 2.2 million square feet of the facility with full occupancy, the system's installation required 11,000 feet of coaxial cable, 106,000 feet of fiber optic cable, 172 remotes, and 252 antennas. The new system allows more users to stay connected to their cellular devices by eliminating dead spots and improving the reliability of the network.
"This technology upgrade is going to be a game changer for our facility and we thank AT&T and our local Smart City Networks team for making it happen," said Rosa Fleming, Interim Director at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas. "We are always looking for ways to make our attendee experience better and this is just one more reason why event planners are choosing Dallas for their conventions and events."
The installation of the DAS took less than seven months, starting on May 8, 2018, and going live on November 30, 2018.
The completion of the neutral host DAS at the KBHCCD is part of Smart City Networks ongoing mission to deliver peace of mind and a better experience to convention center attendees and facility managers across the country.
