Skyworks Executive Director General John Michel to Present at New York Venture Summit
SALT LAKE CITY, July 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. John Michel, executive director of Skyworks Global Inc., the world's leading authority on gyronautics (the science of autorotative flight) will be presenting this transformative technology at the 18th annual New York Venture Summit this week. The Summit is the premier industry gathering, connecting venture capitalists, corporate VCs, angel investors, technology transfer professionals, senior executives of venture backed emerging and early stage companies, researchers, incubators and premier service providers.
Michel will demonstrate the numerous advantages of gyronautic aircraft over traditional helicopter and airplane platforms. Blending the VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) capabilities of a helicopter with the range and payload of a fixed wing plane, Gyrocraft are capable of taking off and landing without a runway, eliminating much of the costly and complex infrastructure that a traditional air fleet demands. The significance of this is enormous, particularly for the two-thirds of the world currently without sustainable aviation capabilities. According to aviation industry forecasts, the combined economic value of passenger and cargo movement is estimated to reach almost $1 trillion by 2023.
Michel is a globally renowned mobility futurist and aviation expert. In 2013, he was selected to serve as the commanding general of NATO's 14-nation effort to design and build the $7 billion Afghanistan air force, where he and his team achieved unprecedented results that lead to their being awarded the 2014 SECDEF Training and Maintenance Innovation Award for Global Nation Building efforts.
Since joining the private sector in 2015, he has continued his work with alternative transportation solutions that are applicable to both first world and emerging nations' challenges. In addition to his role at Skyworks, Michel is also Chairman of the Board at DemandTrans Solutions, a mobility software company that specializes in transformational ground transit solutions and is the Managing Partner at Switch Mobility, the provider of the first dynamic mobility as a service (MaaS) application that integrates real-time, on-demand transit capabilities into a comprehensive mobility platform for consumers.
"I'm excited to share how this safe, simple and sustainable aviation technology can elegantly and efficiently solve the long-standing challenges experienced by both developing and developed nations across the globe," said Michel. "I am convinced gyronautics is a blue ocean opportunity of unprecedented magnitude," he added.
The Summit takes place July 11 at the Convene in New York City.
