NEW YORK, April 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Skyhorse Publishing is proud to announce a new partnership with North American Mensa and Mensa Canada. "American Mensa is often considered the premier brand in providing or collaborating with partners to provide popular puzzles and quizzes. We are excited to be working with Skyhorse Publishing as they develop a line of challenging puzzle books and look forward to seeing our relationship develop and grow in the years ahead."
—Pam Donahoo, executive director, American Mensa
"Skyhorse is thrilled to partner with the quintessential high intelligence brand in the world. With American Mensa, we plan to launch a unique and appealing line of puzzle and game books that will excite both puzzle lovers and booksellers."
—Mark Gompertz, group editorial director, Skyhorse Publishing
For years, Skyhorse has published puzzle and game books but has never had a brand name as marketable as American Mensa. We plan to use these books as a centerpiece of a program for a category that has proven to be a perennial for both traditional and nontraditional retailers. Skyhorse will work with American Mensa to develop books that will stimulate book buyers, be fun and profitable for retailers, and live up to the American Mensa goal to "foster human intelligence."
Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. They had the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The original aims were, as they are today, to create a society that is nonpolitical and free from all racial or religious distinctions. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top two percent of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other's company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities.
Skyhorse Publishing was launched in September 2006 by Tony Lyons, former president and publisher of the Lyons Press. The company has had forty-five New York Times bestsellers and has more than 6,500 titles in print.
Skyhorse is dedicated to publishing books that make people's lives better, whether that means teaching them a hobby, bringing them a unique and important story, or encouraging them to fight against injustices, conspiracies, or abuses of power. The company maintains a firm stance against censorship and aims to provide a full spectrum of political, theological, cultural, and philosophical viewpoints to counter the increasingly biased environment in mainstream media.
Through its eighteen imprints, Skyhorse publishes an eclectic and maverick list of titles. Its imprints—Allworth Press, Arcade Publishing, Carrel Books, Clydesdale Press, Gary Null Publishing, Good Books, Helios Press, Hot Books, Night Shade Books, Not For Tourists, Racehorse Publishing, Racehorse For Young Readers, Seahorse Press, Sky Pony Press, Sports Publishing, Talos Press, Yucca Publishing, and Skyhorse Publishing—cover everything from nature, sports, country living, history, reference, travel, humor, health, art, business, philosophy, religion, politics, investigative and conspiracy, to fiction, literary nonfiction, science fiction, fantasy, and young adult and children's literature. Its backlist includes more than six thousand titles. Skyhorse is distributed by Perseus Books Group in the United States and overseas, and by Thomas Allen & Son in Canada.
