LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Corporate, Real Estate and Entertainment law firm Sklar Kirsh LLP today announced the addition of its new Litigation practice group. The practice will be led by Justin M. Goldstein who, for the last two decades, has represented some of the country's largest and most well-known companies in complex commercial and entertainment litigation.
Goldstein comes to Sklar Kirsh after leading the Entertainment & Media Litigation Group at Carlsmith Ball for seven years. Prior to Carlsmith Ball, Goldstein practiced in the litigation groups at O'Melveny & Myers LLP and Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.
"Adding litigation capabilities to the firm's services perfectly complements our transactional practice," said firm Co-Chairman Jeffrey Sklar, who oversees the firm's Corporate practice. "The litigation team brings several new institutional clients to our firm and will enhance our service offering to our existing entertainment, corporate and real estate clients. While we've had tremendous growth in other areas, litigation is the piece that completes the picture."
Sklar Kirsh Co-Chairman Andrew Kirsh, who oversees the firm's Real Estate practice, says he's been looking forward to this addition for a long time. "This new practice is going to be a tremendous benefit to our real estate clients who confront complex disputes in the course of their businesses and transactions," Kirsh said.
"I'm excited to lead the litigation charge at Sklar Kirsh," said Goldstein, who earned his J.D. from the USC Gould School of Law and his B.A. from Brandeis University. "I've been privileged throughout my career to work with sophisticated clients in a wide array of industries, including entertainment, technology, communications, manufacturing, and energy. I'm a firm believer in proactively counseling clients on strategies for avoiding disputes, but when litigation becomes necessary, our team is seasoned and aggressive."
Goldstein served as lead counsel for a major energy company in a month-long federal court jury trial last year involving tens of millions of dollars, which ended in a straight verdict in his client's favor. In addition to handling a wide array of complex commercial disputes, he has also regularly represented television and motion picture studios in copyright infringement and profit participation cases, and developed an expertise in trade secret controversies, all of which will help support Sklar Kirsh's already-thriving entertainment practice.
Louise Nutt, a commercial litigator who most recently practiced at Glaser Weil Fink Howard Avchen & Shapiro LLP, will join Goldstein in launching Sklar Kirsh's new practice. Nutt's experience includes defending banks, franchisors, real estate developers, and other business ventures in state and federal court litigation. Nutt obtained both her B.A. and J.D. from Stanford University, and during her law school tenure was editor-in-chief of the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and worked in the Stanford Immigrants' Rights Clinic.
The new Litigation team continues Sklar Kirsh's commitment to recruiting top talent from major law firms and industry leaders. Last year, the firm added an entertainment practice led by three former in-house, entertainment general counsels.
With offices in Century City, Calabasas and Pasadena, Sklar Kirsh was founded by attorneys from nationally and internationally recognized firms including Loeb & Loeb LLP, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, Latham & Watkins LLP and O'Melveny & Myers LLP. The firm started with six lawyers in 2013, and now has 24 attorneys across its practice groups.
