SK Telecom to Deploy Cellular Infrastructure Platforms Based on Scintera Technology
Scintera Technology Expands Market Penetration in Korean 4G Infrastructure Rollout
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Scintera Networks, Inc., a leading provider of mixed signal semiconductors for wireless communications, today announced that Scintera's RF Power Amplifier Linearizer (RFPAL) SC1889 has been integrated in a quad-band 20W-60W optical repeater and a dual-band 20W remote radio unit. These units are being deployed as part of SK Telecom's (SKT) network rollout of 4G LTE and network performance improvements of existing 2G/3G services.
Scintera's SC1889 linearizers are being deployed by SKT in the following two systems:
- 2G/3G/4G Quad-Band Optical Repeater: Multi-standard including LTE, CDMA and WiBro, 20W to 60W output power (RMS at antenna) and support for wide signal bandwidth up to 55MHz.
- 4G Dual-Band Remote Radio Unit: LTE and 20W output power (RMS at antenna)
Scintera's technology enabled each of SKT's suppliers to rapidly develop compact, power efficient and cost effective radio units while meeting very stringent performance and quality requirements. These systems will allow SKT to better deploy and maintain its LTE network while also expanding coverage for its subscribers throughout Korea.
"Scintera's linearizer is playing an important part in our rollout of 4G services," said Sang Ho Kim, Manager of Access Network Development of SKT. "Timely delivery of systems, low power consumption, high performance and compact overall volume were key areas of focus for SKT. The Scintera SC1889 allowed our suppliers to meet all those requirements enabling our subscribers to enjoy the improved coverage and speed of our new data services."
"We are pleased to be incorporated in SKT's LTE network rollout," said Davin Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Scintera. "Korea's cellular operators recognize Scintera's value in enabling the quick design of compact, cost effective and high performance solutions. The selection of Scintera by key global operators such as SKT reinforces RFPAL's robustness and value for next generation wireless infrastructure systems. SKT views Scintera's RFPAL as a key component in lowering equipment, deployment and maintenance costs and we see this trend accelerating across the world."
Scintera's SC1889 is available today in mass production quantities. Implemented in standard CMOS, Scintera's RFPAL architecture offers significant cost and time-to-market advantages over competing solutions without compromises in performance. It is the only solution implementing a complete RF power amplifier (PA) linearization system in a single system-on-a-chip (SoC).
