SiteJabber & LegitScript Launch Partnership to Improve Transparency Around Online Pharmacies
PORTLAND, Ore. and SAN FRANCISCO, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- SiteJabber.com, a leading consumer protection service which helps people avoid fraudulent websites and find good sites, and LegitScript.com, the world's largest online pharmacy verification program, have announced a partnership to help Internet users better identify trustworthy prescription drug websites and avoid fraudulent ones.
LegitScript, founded in 2007, is identified by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) as the only independent online pharmacy verification program adhering to the NABP's standards. The company has classified over 35,000 prescription drug Web sites as "rogue" and approved over 300 Internet pharmacies as legitimate, including human and veterinary Internet pharmacies.
SiteJabber.com, founded in 2008, is dedicated to helping consumers avoid fraudulent websites and find ones they will love through community reviews. SiteJabber's goal is to improve online transparency and make the Internet a better place for all consumers.
The agreement between the two companies will give SiteJabber.com visitors information about whether LegitScript has approved a prescription drug Web site as legitimate or designated it as "rogue" (acting in violation of drug safety laws, such as the sale of counterfeit drugs). Meanwhile, visitors to LegitScript.com will be able to take advantage of SiteJabber.com's user interface to rate and share positive and negative information about legitimate and illicit Internet prescription drug websites.
Jeremy Gin, Co-Founder of SiteJabber.com, commented: "For consumers, determining the legality and trustworthiness of online pharmacies can be next to impossible. We at SiteJabber are excited to bring the hundreds of thousands of consumers who visit SiteJabber.com every month the useful insights on online pharmacies provided by LegitScript."
John Horton, President of LegitScript.com, said: "Internet users are a tremendously important source of information about whether a website meets our standards, or is acting fraudulently and unsafely. Partnering with companies like SiteJabber.com gives our users an additional voice in helping to keep the Internet safe."
The companies indicated that the information-sharing functionality regarding websites identified as legitimate Internet pharmacies has been completed. The additional information-sharing component regarding rogue prescription drug Web sites is slated for completion in April 2010.
