ATLANTA, Nov. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its continuing relationship with BJC HealthCare, Surgical Information Systems (SIS), a leader in perioperative information systems, will be providing its perioperative IT solution to two additional BJC facilities. Both Saint Louis Children's Hospital, which U.S. News & World Report named to its Honor Roll of America's Best Children's Hospitals, and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, which received three 2012 Excellence in Healthcare 5-Star Awards from Professional Research Consultants (PRC) for excelling in patient care, will use the SIS solution to automate patient scheduling and documentation in their perioperative department relative to surgery scheduling and nursing intraoperative documentation.

Since 2006, SIS has been providing its surgery management solution to many of the organization's other hospitals including Alton Memorial Hospital, Christian Hospital, Progress West HealthCare Center, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital implemented the system in January 2012 and St. Louis Children's Hospital is preparing for rollout in early 2013.
Perioperative professionals from SIS have worked closely with hospital executives, surgeons, clinicians, and OR management across BJC to focus on initiatives to support improved patient safety and financial outcomes with help of the SIS solution. SIS CEO Ed Daihl says, "For a medical organization the size and sophistication of BJC HealthCare, this helps to streamline clinical documentation processes that support cost control and care quality initiatives while providing full software interoperability with the hospitals' other IT solutions."
The two facilities will also implement SIS Analytics, a robust analytics tool that enables hospital leadership and OR management to make informed decisions based on accurate clinical and business data. It will be fully integrated into the hospital's SIS database, giving users immediate access to perioperative data in order to improve OR processes that reduce costs and support quality initiatives.
