Sire Stakes, Stallion Series Finals Showcase Best of Pennsylvania Harness Racing This Weekend
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania's best harness horses will be featured during the finals of the Pennsylvania Stallion Series and Pennsylvania Sire Stakes starting Saturday, Sept. 6.
"The Sire Stakes and Stallion Series showcase Pennsylvania horses and are an investment in the state's industry," said Agriculture Secretary George Greig. "When breeders bring top stock here and invest in our state, they strengthen our economy. These sons and daughters of proven, world-class Pennsylvania sires demonstrate the quality of our state's Standardbred breeding program and provide great racing action."
The Sire Stakes and Stallion Series recognize offspring of stallions registered in Pennsylvania. Horses enrolled in the programs compete through the season, earning points to secure a slot in the upcoming finals. Each day's card features four races: trotting colts, trotting fillies, pacing colts and pacing fillies.
Sire Stakes two-year-olds championship races are Saturday, Sept. 6, at Pocono Downs, post time 6:30 p.m. Three-year-olds in the Sire Stakes race at Harrah's Philadelphia on Sunday, Sept. 7, starting at 12:40 p.m.
Stallion Series finals are at The Meadows in suburban Pittsburgh, where two-year-old championship races are Monday, Sept. 8, and three-year-old races are Tuesday, Sept. 9. Post times are 12:55 p.m. for both days.
