LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, 16 Los Angeles-area Chick-fil-A® Restaurants will host a Lemonade Fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 6 in support of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. The restaurants will donate a percentage of regular lemonade sales during the event to the nonprofit, a national foundation dedicated to raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer.
"We are honored to have the opportunity to team up with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation," said C.R. May, franchise Operator of Chick-fil-A at University of California, Los Angeles. "We invite the community to come out and enjoy a lemonade in support of this wonderful organization."
Liz and Jay Scott founded Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation – with a mission to find a cure for all children battling cancer – after their daughter Alex fought cancer as a young girl. Diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on her first birthday, Alex continued to fight and held her first lemonade stand later at four-years-old with her older brother to help raise money for doctors treating children with cancer. Together, they raised $2,000 for the hospital that provided her treatment, and her family continued to hold lemonade stand fundraisers annually. When Alex passed away at the age of eight, she had raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease that took her life.
"We are thrilled that Chick-fil-A will be raising funds and awareness for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation this September during Childhood Cancer Awareness month," said Liz Scott, the mother of Alex and co-CEO of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. "Through the efforts of generous partners like Chick-fil-A, we are moving closer to achieving the dream of my daughter Alex – a cure for all kids with cancer."
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has funded over 50 research projects since 2006 to benefit to benefit local Los Angeles medical and cancer research centers. Countless families have benefited from the services made possible by the organization, with the Herman family being just one of them. The Hermans will attend the fundraiser at Chick-fil-A 405 at Jefferson (11750 Jefferson Blvd) at 6 p.m. to help share the importance of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and the restaurant fundraiser.
"We are honored to host a local family that has been positively affected by the work of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation," said Julian Hollar, franchise Operator of Chick-fil-A 405 at Jefferson. "We look forward to treating them as special guests for the evening, and inviting the community to come out in support of this great cause."
