Single Parent Resource Center's Fall Fete 2016 To Honor Betsey Steeger, OASAS And DHMH
Broadway star Alison Fraser to offer keynote address
NEW YORK, Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Single Parent Resource Center ("SPRC"), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping New York City's single parent families survive and thrive, will hold its annual Fall Fete on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 6 pm at the National Arts Club, located at 15 Gramercy Park South.
Honorees for this event include Betsey Steeger, who will receive the 2016 SPRC Volunteer Recognition Award; the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), which will receive this year's SPRC Community Recognition Awards. Speakers will include Alison Fraser, the Tony-nominated actress and singer, known for her roles on Broadway, in film and on television, who will offer insight into single parenthood in New York.
"SPRC provides single parent families in New York City with real tools for survival. Many of our families grapple with the greatest of life's challenges, including poverty, homelessness, joblessness, or drug, alcohol, or gambling addictions, or incarceration of a parent," says Rosemarie E. Dackerman, Executive Director of SPRC. "For all of these families, SPRC provides pragmatic programs designed to strengthen family relationships, improve parenting skills, promote healthier lifestyles, and reduce abuse and neglect."
"Betsey Steeger has been instrumental to our goal of helping single parent families learn to help themselves. As a single parent, she came to SPRC in the 1990s. She helped the organization obtain grants from St. James' Church, and later, she joined the SPRC Board of Directors and was elected secretary, a position she has held for nearly 20 years. Without her guidance, energy and generosity, this organization would not be where it is today. She is also a sustaining member of the New York Junior League," explains Ms. Dackerman.
"For over 12 years, The Single Parent Resource Center has partnered with the OASAS and DHMH to provide substance abuse and tobacco prevention programs, and, starting in 2010, problem gambling prevention programs for New York City's single parents and their families. We are proud of our continuing partnership with OASAS and DHMH," says Ms. Dackerman.
