Singer-Songwriter Joel Rafael Wins Top Prize In Folk Category At The International Acoustic Music Awards
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- California songwriter and seminal folk artist Joel Rafael was awarded the top prize in Folk/Americana/Roots at 2013's International Acoustic Music Awards for his song "Dance Around My Atom Fire." The 8th Annual IAMA's were announced on Wednesday, February 6th. Judging is based on excellence in music performance, songwriting, composition, song choice, music production, originality and artistry.
"Dance Around My Atom Fire" is featured on Rafael's recently released America Come Home, out on Inside Recordings, a label started by Jackson Browne. The tune was a co-write with Woody Guthrie. Joel has a long history of carrying on the legacy of Woody Guthrie through two prior cover albums Woodeye and Woodyboye. America Come Home is a socially conscious high-energy collection of songs in keeping with the great folk tradition- a genre that Rafael has mastered.
Joel Rafael has been writing and performing since 1978 and over the past decades has released a stunning collection of eight Americana albums. He has opened for acts such as Rick Danko, Emmylou Harris, John Lee Hooker, John Stewart, Laura Nyro and Taj Mahal. He has collaborated with artists such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and Rosie Flores.
