POWAY, Calif., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Decision Sciences International Corporation (Decision Sciences), the leading provider of advanced security and contraband detection systems, today announced it has been awarded a contract by the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs. Under the terms of the contract, Decision Sciences will deploy its revolutionary Multi-Mode Passive Detection System Generation 3 (MMPDS Gen3) at the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore, the world's largest transshipment hub.
Using its unique and passive cosmic ray tomography and gamma detection capabilities for detection, location, and identification of unshielded and shielded radiological and nuclear materials, as well as explosives, narcotics, cigarettes and other contraband, the MMPDS Gen3 will play an important role in ensuring the safety and security of Singapore. The MMPDS Gen3 installation at the ICA Ports Command is expected to be the first of many such in-country deployments to more effectively protect Singapore, combat smuggling, and enhance the Port of Singapore's already world-class commercial performance.
The MMPDS Gen3's environmentally friendly, patented technology safely, securely, passively and automatically scans in 3D all types of vehicles, cargo containers and other conveyances. In addition to being able to detect and identify radiological threats and known contraband, the MMPDS Gen3 – unlike other systems – is also "trainable" and incorporates advanced machine learning algorithms. As the threat or contraband type changes, MMPDS Gen3's software library can be updated to help identify additional materials of interest.
"Decision Sciences is very proud to partner with the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs, and we applaud the leadership that the Singapore government has again provided to the global community in engaging our unique next generation scanning solution," said Dwight Johnson, Decision Sciences' President and CEO.
"This contract is a watershed industry event," Mr. Johnson continued. "Coming shortly after our announcement of a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office for deployment of the MMPDS Gen3 in the United States, this Singapore contract highlights the growing appreciation of the transformative benefits of the MMPDS Gen3 by sophisticated and forward thinking customers around the world."
Unlike other systems on the market, particularly x-ray devices, the MMPDS Gen3 is totally passive and environmentally friendly, using naturally occurring cosmic ray muons and electrons – providing a truly "S.A.F.E." scanning and detection solution with no active or ionizing radiation source.
The unique benefits of the MMPDS Gen3 include:
Smart: |
Machine learning algorithms and data library, combined with recurring software updates. |
Affordable: |
Low maintenance and operating costs. |
Fast: |
Quickly clears cargo or detects suspicious materials. |
Effective: |
Substantial penetration capability |
"This milestone Singapore contract heralds a new era of passive nuclear and conventional threat and contraband detection – something that has never before been possible in the same way," said Stuart J. Rabin, Chairman of the Board of Decision Sciences. "Singapore is well known for its technical expertise, for its cutting-edge approach to security and operations, and for its critical role in the global supply chain," Mr. Rabin continued. "Today, Singapore has shown confidence in the impressive capabilities of Decision Sciences' MMPDS Gen3, and has therefore confirmed the belief of many who expect it to become the solution of choice for ports, border crossings, critical infrastructure, nuclear power plants, military installations and in numerous other venues throughout the world, including at locations and for operations where today's outdated and often hazardous scanning systems are impractical, ineffective or unwise."

About Decision Sciences
Decision Sciences, a provider of advanced security and contraband detection systems, has its headquarters and an R&D facility in California and has additional offices in Virginia. Decision Sciences brings together cutting-edge science, hardware and software development, systems integration and manufacturing to improve the safety and security of the global community. Based on revolutionary and disruptive technology originally invented by physicists at the U.S. Department of Energy Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Multi-Mode Passive Detection System (MMPDS) was subsequently developed with considerable private sector investment and expertise. The MMPDS is a totally passive, safe, effective and automated scanning system for quickly detecting, locating and identifying unshielded to heavily shielded radiological and nuclear threats, explosives and other contraband including weapons, alcohol, cigarettes/tobacco, drugs/narcotics, precious metals, smuggled humans and numerous other items of interest and anomalies. The system can uniquely safeguard the integrity of the global supply chain, expedite the flow of commerce, fortify trade resiliency and help achieve the 100% scanning requirement recommended by the U.S. 9/11 Commission and later enacted into law by the U.S. Congress. The core technology inherent in the MMPDS also has wide ranging applications beyond the security arena, including in the medical, mining, energy and manufacturing industries and can facilitate the efficient collection and aggregation of significant amounts of previously unavailable data.
