SimplyVital Health Invited to Inaugural MDP Labs Program
BLOOMFIELD, Conn., Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SimplyVital Health (SVH), the healthcare company using blockchain technology to tackle bundled payments, has been accepted into athenahealth's inaugural More Disruption Please (MDP) Labs program. SVH is one of just 10 companies selected from over 110 applicants to work alongside athenahealth and other industry leaders seeking to disrupt and improve the healthcare IT industry.
MDP Labs is athenahealth's partnership and innovation program, bringing together entrepreneurs, investors, clinicians and industry experts who share the vision of disrupting the status quo in healthcare. The MDP Labs program offers tailored programming and mentorship, exposure to provider clients, business development/funding opportunities, and a nurturing community learning environment that encourages collaboration.
"It is an amazing honor to be invited to MDP Labs and given a chance to learn and work alongside other startups and disruptors in the healthcare industry," says SVH CEO Katherine Kuzmeskas. "The shift to Value-Based Care means new opportunities for disrupting and improving the current healthcare model, and SVH believes the adoption blockchain technology for healthcare records will result in improved patient outcomes and lower costs across the board."
Blockchain technology, which underpins cryptocurrencies such as BitCoin, allows SVH to create and share immutable health records. These unchangeable records can track patient care across multiple providers, from the first doctor appointment to their final post-care treatment. In addition to reducing costs in bundled payments, SVH is using blockchain technology to break down data silos and protect healthcare data, ultimately lowering costs for providers and patients alike.
Each MDP Labs team will be paired with a sponsor to guide the company through the course. SVH will be represented by Allison LaValley, who has been paired with athenahealth's Quality Performance Manger Elizabeth Goheen. SVH is also one of just two East Coast startups selected for the MDP Labs program, beating out many other Silicon Valley startups that hoped to enter the program.
SVH, which is based in Bloomfield, Connecticut, has raised $500,000 in funding last week, and Kuzmeskas was named to Fortune's "34 Leaders Who Are Changing Healthcare" list earlier this summer.
