simplehuman brings buckets to the beach for Heal the Bay's Coastal Cleanup Day
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Housewares product-design company simplehuman will join local environmental group Heal the Bay at the world's largest single-day volunteer event—the 29th annual Coastal Cleanup Day—Saturday, Sept. 20.
Heal the Bay, a non-profit group dedicated to improving the quality and cleanliness of Southern California's coastal waters, is hosting more than 50 cleanup sites along the California coast, and simplehuman will be helping with the dirty work.
The company has been supporters of the organization since 2007. With its mission to design tools to help people become more efficient at home and known for its stainless steel trash cans, simplehuman has shifted its focus to the environment and used its expertise to design a bucket specifically for the event to help the Coastal Cleanup volunteers be more efficient at cleaning up the beach.
"Being a Southern California company, the Heal the Bay cause is close to our heart. We wanted to do something special, so we designed a bucket made of 100% recycled plastic and trash," said Frank Yang, simplehuman founder and CEO.
The bucket, which has a unique sand-coated appearance, is made of 100% recycled material. It uses two-thirds less energy to produce compared to virgin materials, and is itself recyclable—talk about efficiency.
"It seemed only fitting that we don't generate more waste while cleaning up our coastlines," Yang said.
In addition, the bucket can hold up to 20 pounds of trash, and considering last year's volunteers collected more than 12 million pounds of it, they won't be hard to fill.
The beach cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. To learn more about ways you can help Heal the Bay, visit http://www.healthebay.org.
