Simon Dumont, Professional Freeskiier and Kate Foster, Ph.D., President of University of Maine at Farmington Join TideSmart Talk with Stevoe for June 8 Show
FALMOUTH, Maine, June 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In an interview today with TideSmart Talk with Stevoe, a weekly radio show that takes a macro approach towards society and culture, host and 2014 Maine gubernatorial candidate Steve Woods was joined by Simon Dumont, Professional Freeskiier and proud Maine native to discuss the evolution of the sport and his journey to the 2014 Olympics. Woods was also joined in the show's second hour by Kate Foster, Ph.D, President of the University of Maine at Farmington to discuss the future of education in Maine.

In the first hour, Simon Dumont and Woods talked about growing up in Maine, learning to ski at Sunday River at the age of 3, the progression of the sport of freeskiing and his World Record for quarter-pipe height. The two also discussed Dumont's 9 Winter X Games medals, which is more than anyone on the U.S. Half Pipe Team, Dumont's journey to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and what it took to get the sport recognized by the Olympic Committee.
"I didn't start freeskiing to go to the Olympics, however after winning other events, it seems like the next logical step to solidify my name," Dumont said when discussing his drive to make Freeskiing an Olympic sport.
Woods and Dumont also talked about the recent 5th annual "Dumont Cup" (held at Sunday River) and how it was started to help East Coast amateurs gain more experience and exposure.
Also on the June 8 TideSmart Talk with Stevoe show, Woods was joined for an in-studio interview with Dr. Kate Foster, President of the University of Maine at Farmington. Dr. Foster is just finishing her first year as president and talked about completing her first commencement ceremony and how she has come to love Maine. The University of Maine at Farmington will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary, starting this fall. Foster's mission of excellence in public higher education includes specialization in the way of delivering the curriculum and content.
