ALTON, Ill., Feb. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced Friday it is investigating the risk of testosterone treatments causing increasing rates of heart attacks, stroke and death. Responding to a testosterone study published last Wednesday in PLOS ONE, an online, peer-reviewed scientific journal, the FDA issued a communication stating that they had decided to reassess the risk presented by testosterone therapy.

The study, led by experts from the University of California – Los Angeles, found that men over 65 were twice as likely to suffer a cardiovascular event within the first few months of starting testosterone, while men under 65 with a history of heart disease were three times as likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke.
The Simmons Firm, a national testosterone law firm, is also currently investigating claims that testosterone therapy has caused injury and death.
Attorney Trent Miracle leads the Simmons Firm's Pharmaceutical Litigation Group. "Testosterone therapy carries significant risks, and the FDA's statement on Friday is a clear indication that they are taking these risks very seriously," Miracle said. "In fact, the FDA has requested that healthcare professionals and patients report any side effects or adverse events related to testosterone treatments."
Reports can be submitted online to the FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program.
"If you or a loved one has suffered a heart attack or stroke, or been diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis while taking testosterone treatments, consider consulting with an attorney," Miracle said.
