Simmons College Named a "Best College" by U.S.News & World Report, The Princeton Review, and Forbes.Com
BOSTON, Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Once again, Simmons College has been named a "Best College" by U.S.News & World Report in the 2012 edition of "America's Best Colleges." Simmons ranked in the top tier of schools in the Regional Universities North category.
"Simmons has a rich and proud tradition of excellence, and we are pleased that so many prestigious external organizations continue to rank us among the top universities in the nation," said Simmons President Helen Drinan. In the past two months, Simmons has been cited by three premier rankings organizations for excellence. Simmons was featured in The Princeton Review's 2012 college guidebook as one of the nation's "Best 376 Colleges" and named by Forbes.com as one of "America's Best Colleges 2011."
In the 2012 U.S.News ranking, Simmons also was included in the in "A+ Schools for B Students," the Regional Universities North category, a designation for having distinctive programs that serve a "broad, engaged student body."
U.S.News & World Report often is cited as the premier college ranking publication. The 2012 rankings include data on more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools, comparing them by a set of 16 indicators of academic quality including peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving. The 2012 edition of the Best Colleges guidebook is available at USNews.com and will be on newsstands September 20.
In the Forbes.com ranking, Simmons was among a select group of more than 600 colleges, representing 20% of the nearly 4,000 colleges in the United States. The Princeton Review's "Best 376 College" 2012 college guidebook cited Simmons as an institution that equips students with the, "tools and confidence to succeed in the real world." The guidebook said that across Simmons's academic programs there is a focus on "experiential learning and leadership" and a curriculum that "excels at educating women for positions of power and principled leadership."
