Simmons College Launches New Online Master of Public Health Degree
BOSTON, Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Simmons College today launches its new online Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, MPH@Simmons. With a unique focus on health equity, MPH@Simmons will prepare students to address health disparities and positively impact public health at the local, national, and global level.
MPH@Simmons will establish students' understanding in the core areas of public health: epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy and health services, environmental health, and social and behavioral health, with the concept of health equity woven throughout the curriculum. The practice-based curriculum is also designed to develop students' leadership and advocacy abilities - necessary skills for enacting effective public health change.
Students will have the flexibility to pursue studies online, using an advanced learning platform that features live weekly seminar-style classes with faculty, as well as interactive, self-paced coursework. The curriculum also includes in-person immersion experiences that provide students with hands-on learning opportunities. Additionally, from their local communities all over the country, students will complete a health equity change project at the end of their studies through which they apply their culminating experiences to design, implement, and evaluate a project that addresses health inequity.
"MPH@Simmons engages students in innovative education, interdisciplinary collaboration, applied research and practice, community mobilization, and health advocacy in order to advance change and improve health equity locally, nationally, and globally," said MPH Program Director and Assistant Professor Shelley White. "Simmons's unique online degree combines innovative online learning tools with in-person opportunities for students to travel to places like Boston, Arizona and Ecuador to explore public health in context and to engage in service-learning through unique community partnership."
Applications are currently being accepted for the April 2017 cohort.
