STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology is changing what happens in classrooms across the education spectrum, and that includes preschools and early childhood centers.
About 65% of preschool educators say they are using digital devices and materials in their classrooms, according to the newly released report Market Opportunities for PreK Instructional Materials 2015-2016 from Simba Information.
"The popularity of tablets is a driving force behind increased use of digital materials in PreK classrooms," said Kathy Mickey, managing editor of the Education Group at Simba Information, which produced the report. "In the last school year, about 44% of preschool educators said they were using tablets in their classroom. That nearly double the response rate we received back in 2013."
For this report, Simba Information teamed up with MCH Strategic Data to conduct an online survey in late spring 2015 of educators in public and private preschools, Head Start programs and early childhood centers to learn more about the changing environment in preschools and educators' needs for and use of instructional materials. More than 1,000 educators responded.
"The chief reason for using technology in preschool is to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond, educators told us," Mickey said. Still, about one-fifth of the educators said they do not use digital devices in their classrooms.
The report examines enrollment, funding and policy trends, as well as types of materials used in the PreK learning process.
