Simba Information: K-12 Educational Publishing Benefits from Stronger Instructional Materials Adoption Market
STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Publishers of K-12 textbooks and instructional software are benefitting from a stronger instructional materials adoption market in 2014 and are jockeying to build on that momentum in 2015, according to the 2014 National Instructional Materials Adoption Scorecard and 2015 Outlook, the new strategic education market report from Simba Information.
2014 was a rejuvenating year for the K-12 educational publishing/software industry with double-digit revenue growth, powered by a robust adoption opportunity.
"While the big traditional publishers continued to dominate almost all adoptions, 2014 was the year of the rising newcomers and smaller companies," said Kathy Mickey, senior analyst and managing editor of the Education Group at Simba Information. "This mix of new and small companies captured almost 20% of the adoptions we tracked in 2014."
As adoption states have opened adoptions to digital materials and as school districts have accelerated implementation of laptops and tablets in the classroom, the adoptions are providing attractive opportunities for companies with new approaches to curriculum materials, Mickey said.
As a result, competition is building as the adoption opportunity in 2015 cycles away from the big disciplines of reading and math in the larger states to social studies and world languages. In addition, increased technology implementation in classrooms has meant that states and schools are taking longer to evaluate all the options for instructional materials. "The schools don't want to miss the next big thing," Mickey said.
Simba Information's 2014 National Instructional Materials Adoption Scorecard and 2015 Outlook details sales results of specific state adoptions tracked in 2014, examines changes in instructional materials adoption policies and outlines state adoption opportunities through 2018.
