Leading Silk-Protein Company Leverages Science to Provide Silk Benefits Beyond Skin-Care
MEDFORD, Mass., Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Silk Therapeutics Inc., a specialty biotechnology company innovating a silk protein product platform, today announced receipt from the United States Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO") of a Notice of Allowance for US non-provisional patent application serial number 14/503,021, related to a new form of pure, natural and stable silk protein.
Claims in the patent application are the basis of Silk Therapeutics' technology platform that forms the foundation of the company's mission: improving human health through the ways in which individuals treat and enhance skin. The company plans to pursue applications beyond its anti-aging skincare line into other consumer and medical products that can benefit from the inherent safety, effectiveness and performance associated with natural silk.
"By utilizing advanced manufacturing technology, our goal was to create a reliable source of highly pure, natural, non-GMO silk protein," said Greg Altman, PhD, Chief Executive Officer, Silk Therapeutics. "Our technology platform will form the basis for products, where silk's unique ability to treat skin as well as stabilize and deliver active ingredients without the use of harsh chemicals and solvents can be leveraged."
Silk Therapeutics intends to pursue product opportunities that will eliminate the unnecessary use of unregulated chemicals used in today's consumer products. The company further hopes to pursue partnerships with product developers interested in health based applications.
