Silicon Valley Technology Executive Lily Shen Joins Transfix as Chief Operating Officer
Former Wealthfront, eBay and IDEO executive to further accelerate growth
NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Transfix, a leading online freight marketplace, today announced the appointment of Lily Shen as the company's first Chief Operating Officer. After spending nearly 20 years in Silicon Valley as a high-level executive at leading technology companies such as eBay, Wealthfront, and IDEO, Shen, a native New Yorker, has moved back to New York City to oversee sales, business development, marketing, partnerships, and operations at Transfix.
"Since joining Transfix earlier this year, Lily has tripled the business, and has done so profitably," said Drew McElroy, CEO and Co-founder of Transfix. "Her rich experience in scaling global marketplaces, building exceptional teams and driving innovation have already produced tremendous results in terms of customer adoption, and the acceleration of our product development. We are so excited to have her on board."
Shen began her career at Goldman Sachs and eBay. No stranger to the nuances of scaling global marketplaces to displace large incumbents, she held various senior roles at eBay, including overseeing the computers and fashion businesses, leading the data business unit, and launching eBay's Partner Network to over 50,000 global partners. Following her tenure at eBay, Shen was recruited to become Weathfront's first Chief Marketing Officer, where she helped launch the robo-advisor movement that is reshaping the retail investment industry. Shen also brings a wealth of global experience to Transfix, having consulted for Asian giants like WeChat, Coupang, and Mercari, all multibillion-dollar online marketplaces.
In her new role as Chief Operating Officer, Shen will accelerate Transfix's position as the go-to marketplace provider and innovator in the $600 billion domestic trucking market.
"I am beyond excited to join Drew, Jonathan and the exceptional team at Transfix to lead the company through its next phase of growth," said Shen. "In a span of just five years, Transfix has revolutionized the freight brokerage industry with cloud-based software, artificial intelligence, and data science, all while maintaining a warm, human touch that keeps our customers so loyal. We see a world where both shippers and carriers benefit from an automated online freight exchange, one that empowers them to move goods efficiently and cost effectively while eliminating deadhead. I look forward to furthering our mission to improve the lives of shippers, carriers and drivers across the U.S. and to contributing to New York City's vibrant technology community."
Shen graduated Magna Cum Laude from New York University's Stern School of Business. She then pursued her executive education in Strategy and Organization at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business and participated in Harvard Business School's Women's Leadership and Innovation program.
