Endesa recognized the technological advances of Siemens' Spectrum Power™ advanced control systems and that some of their current systems needed to be brought up to date. The motivation of the current project with Siemens reflects the desire of Endesa LatAm to transform their systems toward a unique and integrated platform for the group. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
Endesa's objectives for the regional advanced control systems project include providing real-time information and a reliable method to obtain a safer and more efficient operation for the electric power grid, improving quality and operative costs, providing a set of network analyses tools that help the operator with operative decision making, providing historical information that allows analysis of the electric power grid and the elaboration of internal and external reports to corporate and regulating entities.
Further objectives include the ability to optimize response times in order to fulfill or improve quality indicators of service, implement solutions based on best existing practices that leverage existing investments by participating companies (with state-of-the-art systems that enable future incorporation of new functionalities), increase integration with other systems that enables investment optimization, and create flexible architecture systems to fulfill legal requirements established by regulating entities, such as the technical standards of security and quality of service unique to the needs of each country.
"Siemens is proud to be working with Endesa on this important project. The solution we are delivering to Endesa in Latin America will improve the quality of life for their customers, keep costs in check, manage risk and remain on the cutting edge of technology," said Thierry Godart, vice president and general manager of Energy Automation North America, Siemens Energy, Inc.
"This project is a great example of innovation working to serve our markets and exceed customers' expectations by providing secure, high-quality solutions that improve efficiency and environmental quality," said Carlos Zambrano, program manager, Endesa.
Spectrum Power™ is a message-based SCADA platform, with application functionality (such as network analysis and historical archiving) provided by separate components. This architecture enables a system to be tailored to meet a utility's current needs, and expands it as those needs grow. Spectrum Power™ is integrated into a powerful, end-to-end range of products and solutions which allows swift adaptation of electric power systems to new conditions.
