Siegfried Award Honors a Business Leader, Educator and Communicator
Horn Program in Entrepreneurship Recognizes Dr. Nido R. Qubein
WILMINGTON, Del., Nov. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Delaware Horn Program in Entrepreneurship will host an educational workshop and award dinner to honor Dr. Nido R. Qubein, a business leader, distinguished educator and professional speaker as the recipient of the 2015 Siegfried Award for Entrepreneurial Leadership.
Qubein came to the United States in 1966 with little knowledge of English and only $50 in his pocket. He has gone on to become chairman, Great Harvest Bread Company; president, High Point University; author of 11 books, including How to Communicate Like a Pro and Stairway to Success: The Complete Blueprint for Personal and Professional Achievement; and recipient of many honors including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the Horatio Alger Award for Distinguished Americans.
The Siegfried Award for Entrepreneurial Leadership is unique in its recognition of a person or group for their contributions to entrepreneurial leadership. According to Dan Freeman, director of the Horn Program, "The award's selection criteria focus on recognizing anyone who has made outstanding contributions to the understanding and practice of entrepreneurial leadership, which might include entrepreneurs, educators, or consultants. In this case, we are recognizing someone who is all three; Dr. Qubein is an entrepreneur, an educator and a consultant."
The Horn Program's Siegfried Award in Entrepreneurial Leadership was established by Robert L. Siegfried, CEO and founder of The Siegfried Group and chair of the advisory board for the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
"To me Dr. Qubein is an inspiration, coming from humble beginnings to emerge as an entrepreneurial leader who has positively influenced countless lives through business, education, consulting activity and philanthropy," said Siegfried.
Qubein was selected to receive the award, which includes a $10,000 honorarium, by a committee consisting of five high-impact entrepreneurs and three University professors. Freeman and Siegfried co-chaired the selection committee.
