Sideways Releases David Roberts' Egypt eBook for the iPad
Roberts' historic journey through Egypt recreated in engaging interactive multimedia collection
CLEVELAND, April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sideways, Inc., which transforms books, magazines and other publications into immersive experiences on mobile devices, today released David Roberts' Egypt – as an enhanced eBook in the EPUB format. The Scottish artist David Roberts (1796-1864) is famous for his detailed lithographs produced from sketches made during his tours of the Egyptian region beginning in 1838. Sideways recreated Roberts' artwork and journal in a colorful, engaging, interactive multimedia collection and delivers it in an elegantly stylized narrative experience.
Sideways brings David Roberts' Egypt to life with high definition images of Roberts' lithographs, improved typography and 80 minutes of audio narration by award-winning Simon Prebble. The enhanced eBook's audio is intercut with pertinent text and zoomable images so that a reader can page through the eBook or view Roberts' artistry in detail while listening to his journals.
"While there are still significant limits to enhanced eBooks in EPUB format compared to apps, authors can tell compelling multimedia stories with beauty and charm. With the release of our David Roberts' Egypt we tell the story of the famous British artist as he travels and sketches the wonders of ancient Egypt in the early 19th Century," said Charles Stack, founder and CEO of Sideways, Inc. "With text, audio, images, and maps readers can experience and enjoy the wonders of Egypt through Roberts' own 'voice' and artistic eye."
David Roberts' Egypt allows readers to experience the highlights of Egypt – Alexandria, Cairo, the pyramids, Luxor, Abu Simbel and other landmarks – through the words and eyes of one of the earliest European artists to travel up the Nile to Nubia.
The enhanced eBook format includes the following:
- Brilliant, high-resolution color images of 100 lithographs with full pan and zoom capability
- High-resolution maps of the Nile scanned from the original 1850 publication
- Roberts' personal travel journal with 80 minutes of audio by the engaging award-winning narrator Simon Prebble (recipient of 14 Audie Nominations and Publishers Weekly 2006 Narrator of the Year)
- A companion web page with Web Notes™, which allows readers to explore, discover, and share information about the author and book
David Roberts' Egypt enhanced eBook is available in the Apple iBookstore for $12.99.
