By offering the LCR-Reader, and the newly released ST-5S, as well as their respective accessories (spare test leads, chargers, etc.) on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca, American customers can avoid waiting times for customs and brokerage charges.
Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is the leading manufacturing method for electronics, which uses small components referred to as SMDs or Surface Mount Devices. These components are generally very small and may or not distinguishing marks. Testing and keeping track of these components and their values may be difficult. Smart Tweezers was created aiming to solve all issues with evaluating these small components. It is the combination of a small yet powerful LCR-meter and a set of tweezers acting as the test probes into a small, compact, one-handed-use device. Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader make identifying and evaluating these components simple; with a component grasped between the tweezers' tips, the device will automatically determine the type of component and measure for Inductance, Resistance, Capacitance and Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) values. The evaluation results, type of component, and test parameters used are then instantly available on the embedded screen. There is no set-up required between evaluations, nor does a mounted component need to be removed from a PCB to be tested.
The most popular model of Smart Tweezers is the ST-5 and is currently being used by professionals and high-tech companies worldwide. This model has been replaced by the ST-5S, which offers the same functionality and features as the ST-5, but has a sleeker, lighter design with a bright OLED display. Comparison of features of the new and old models is presented in this Smart Tweezers comparison table.
ST-5S features include:
- Fully automatic L, C, R and ESR measurements
- Basic accuracy of 0.2%
- Component sorting
- Adjustable test signals
- Continuity and Diode Testing
- Displays active and reactive impedance components
- Parasitic offset subtraction capabilities
- Ideal for small components, as small as 0201 size or 0.3mm
- Li-Ion battery, micro-USB charging
The LCR-Reader is the consumers' choice LCR-meter, designed specifically for non-professionals and hobbyists looking for a device like Smart Tweezers but with a lower price point. The lower price, half that of ST-5, was achievable by having a slightly lower basic accuracy of 1% and leaving a few features off the device, including: parasitic offset, continuity and diode testing, component sorting, and variable test signals. The 1% basic accuracy is lower than the ST-5 model, but is about the same as the ST-2 and ST-3 models.
Siborg Systems Inc. still offers a complimentary 2-year extended warranty for direct purchases of Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader through their web sites. American customers will benefit by ordering through Amazon by bypassing customs and brokerage fees. Amazon Prime customers also benefit with free two day shipping.
