Shopko and Wrigley Donate Over 16,000 Easter Eggs to Local Organizations
LEBANON, Ind., March 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Easter just got a little sweeter for kids in Lebanon thanks to a donation of more than 16,000 Easter eggs from Shopko and William R. Wrigley, Jr. Co., a subsidiary of Mars, Inc. The plastic, treat-filled Easter eggs are being donated to the City of Lebanon Parks & Recreation Department, the YMCA and Frankfort High School DECA Backpack Buddies.
"One of the best parts of being a member of the Shopko team is knowing we are making a difference in the communities we serve, not just through our local store presence, but through our charitable efforts, which are at the core of our company," said Mike Bettiga, Shopko Interim CEO and Chief Operating Officer. "Many local organizations plan special activities for the families that they serve. Shopko wants to assist these groups in providing a memorable holiday for them and we are happy to partner with Wrigley to provide these special treats for Lebanon area children."
Many of the eggs will be hunted down by area children at the city's annual free Easter egg hunt which will take place on Saturday, March 30 from 10:30 am – noon. "We are so grateful for this donation and can't wait to see the reaction of the kids on the day of the event," said Lebanon Park Director John Messenger. "Without the generosity of companies like Shopko and Wrigley, we could not have our annual free Easter egg hunt that benefits more than 300 area children."
Together, Shopko and Wrigley are donating more than 140,000 Easter eggs this year to organizations and charities that serve children in Shopko communities across the Midwest.
"The Witham Family YMCA is so thankful for this wonderful and timely donation," said Executive Director Shannon Russell. "We used the eggs for our Easter Extravaganza! It was a fabulous event with over 100 people from our community participating. We were also able to distribute Easter eggs to other YMCA chapters around the Greater Indianapolis area. By supporting the YMCA, Shopko plays a significant role in impacting many lives and creating a better community."
