SAN FRANCISCO, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring is about to burst into bloom at the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, the largest world-class garden festival of its kind in the western United States www.sfgardenshow.com. Now entering its 27th year with a bigger, better and greener approach that celebrates "Gardens for a Green Earth," this festival will be held Wednesday through Sunday, March 21-25, 2012 at the San Mateo Event Center. Twenty installations from top designers, many small-space and edible gardens, and seminars led by celebrities such as HGTV's Joe Lamp'l and DIY Networks Ahmed Hassan are among the attractions. The new Chef Stage will showcase Bay Area luminaries such as Annie Somerville of Greens Restaurant, Wendy Johnson of Green Gulch Farm and Brandon Jew of Bar Agricole. Also exciting interest are the expert foragers Connie Green and Sarah Scott who will be signing their book The Wild Table.
Sure to appeal to gardeners, home design fans, and early Mother's Day shoppers will be a Marketplace with over 200 vendors featuring a wide array of sustainable green merchandise such as the GeoPlanter (designed to aerate plant roots) Ecoforms (biodegradable pots), worm composting bins, hydroponic products, seeds, compost and natural fertilizers, pervious concrete solutions, solar materials and water saving products. Outstanding are the 40 plus plant sellers bringing their best and often rarest flora to the show including succulents, orchids, edible plants and perennials. Also in the Marketplace are gloves, boots, jewellery, outdoor furniture, garden tools, clothing and art for the garden. The variety of products available will provide a shopping experience with something for everyone.
While experienced gardeners will be excited by displays on flower arranging, design trends, water conservation, and new plant offerings - the festival is equally accessible to newcomers and visitors seeking a unique outing. Popular sections include exhibits by the California Garden Clubs, the Bonsai Society of San Francisco, and Hot Plant Picks by the Western Horticultural Society. All children love Sproutopia, a fun place filled with activities that teach children about their environment.
