BOSTON, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoebuy, a leading global online retailer of shoes and clothing for shoppers seeking the best variety and brands, announced today that Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer John Foristall has been selected as a 2014 "40 Under 40" honoree by the Boston Business Journal. The award recognizes business and civic leaders under 40 who already are making a major impact in their respective fields and the civic life of the Boston area. Key factors in selecting this year's honorees were professional accomplishments and civic engagement. John was one of only five honorees from consumer companies selected from more than 350 nominations.
John joined Shoebuy in 2006 as Vice President and Controller and helped transition the company from a small private, entrepreneurial startup to being part of IAC, a major international media and Internet company. Appointed CFO in 2010, John has helped navigate the company through the many challenges as a growing eCommerce organization.
With a tangible role in many of the company's functional areas, John oversees all aspects of corporate finance, including accounting and risk management. He is also responsible for overseeing other key operational areas including human resources and the company's warehouse, which is a pivotal pillar for the online retailer. John always keeps an eye on the heart of the company – its people, and helps oversee the company's social and philanthropic initiatives.
"John has had a stellar career, but what distinguishes him further is that he excels outside the workplace as well," said Mike Sorabella, Shoebuy CEO. "At the end of the day, John is a leader who people want to work with. He is a dad, he is a manager, he is a team player, he is a member of the community – juggling work and life just like everyone else around him and humbly setting an example for others to aspire to."
John also works to find a way to stay connected to his personal passion, hockey, throughout his life, which he has credited for helping to ground him. From coaching college teams to his involvement in local youth hockey programs over the years, his most proud accomplishment is helping teach life lessons to the kids with hockey as the backdrop.
Prior to joining Shoebuy, John held various financial positions with Nike, Inc. As Finance Director for Exeter Brands Group, he helped integrate the Starter brand into the portfolio of Nike subsidiaries. John also served as Global Financial Planning Manager for Bauer Hockey, overseeing all aspects of financial planning for offices located in the US, Canada, and in Europe. (Both Starter and Bauer were previously owned and operated by Nike.) Before his time at Nike, John held a senior audit position with Arthur Andersen, LLP in Boston where he earned his CPA.
John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics/Accounting from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he was also a four-year member of the Men's Ice Hockey team. He currently resides in Reading, MA with his wife and two children.
