Shiseido launches its 140th anniversary with a revolutionary beauty counter at The Bay Queen Street
TORONTO, Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Remaining true to its reputation as a pioneer in beauty technology, Shiseido launched its 140th anniversary with another global first: an interactive 55" touch screen Discovery Centre located within a new state-of-the-art beauty counter at The Bay's Queen Street location in Toronto, unveiled during a celebratory gala on January 19.
Using technology developed exclusively for Shiseido, the multi-touch Discovery Centre allows customers to navigate their own path through screens showing the rich culture, luxurious products, and never-before-seen imagery from throughout the brand's 140 year history.
The Discovery Centre is just one element of Shiseido's cutting-edge new beauty counter, a larger-than-life consultation space that stands out from other prestige cosmetics brands with a Japanese-inspired, modern and luxurious design, complete with private spa cabines for two guests—spacious relaxation rooms where Shiseido customers can receive complimentary services like facials treatments and massages.
Design elements showcase a special respect for Shiseido's Japanese roots, with tester units shaped like Jobuko bento boxes and wall panels covered in material inspired by Furoshiki wraps—fabrics traditionally used to package products for customers in Japan. However, Canadian innovation is also positioned front and centre, with the Discovery Centre showing off the best in home-grown technology developed exclusively for Shiseido.
With services and features that embody Shiseido's brand ethos of quality, richness, technology and Omotenashi service—a Japanese term that can be best understood as ultimate hospitality—the launch of this luxurious beauty counter signifies a strengthening bond between Shiseido, the world's oldest independent cosmetic company, and The Bay, Canada's oldest corporation.
The Shiseido counter was opened to the public after a ribbon-cutting ceremony by top national and international executives from both organizations, including Carsten Fischer, Director, Senior Corporate Officer, C.O.O., Global Business, Shiseido Co. Ltd; Keiichi Fujii, President, Shiseido (Canada) Inc.; Shelley Rozenwald, Chief Beauty Adventurer, The Bay, and Richard Montgomery, Store Manager, The Bay Queen Street.
The Shiseido story began in 1872 with a single location selling health and wellness products influenced by founder Arinobu Fukuhara's world travels. On that day, the doors to the first Western-style pharmacy in Japan opened, and so did an epic story—one of a company that would grow, change and evolve for the next 140 years.
