Shipley Do-Nuts® Dash Sweetest Run in Town to raise funds for Kids' Meals
HOUSTON, Feb. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The fourth annual Shipley Do-Nuts Dash is slated for Saturday, April 14th to benefit Kids' Meals, Inc. in Houston, the nation's only free, home meal delivery program for preschool-aged children living in poverty. The Shipley Do-Nuts Dash has raised more than $55,000 for Kids' Meals.
Perfect for runners and walkers alike, the two-mile fun run will begin at 9 a.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium, where participants will make their way along a donut-themed non-competitive course that ends at 8th Wonder Brewery in East Downtown Houston. Tasty treats, include free donuts and Borden milk for participants of all ages, and ice-cold 8th Wonder brews for participants 21 and older, will provide a festive celebration at the finish line. There will also be face painting and balloon activities for children, as well as a lunch bag decorating station for Kids' Meals. This family-friendly event will also feature a donut-themed costume contest, with the winner receiving Shipley Do-Nuts for one year.
More than 2,500 children and adults are expected to participate in the 2018 Shipley Do-Nuts Dash. Included with each registration is a special event t-shirt and a discounted ticket rate to attend a Houston Astros game. Participants that donate a box of ziplock sandwich bags at the starting line will be entered for a chance to win a pair of concert tickets, courtesy of Live Nation. Sandwich bag donations are in high demand for Kids' Meals, who serves an average of 2,700 lunches per day, equating to over 655,000 sandwich bags every year.
Produced and hosted by Shipley Do-Nuts, 100 percent of all proceeds raised from this fun run will benefit Kids' Meals to help reach its 2018 goal of providing 706,100 meals to hungry children in Houston. There are 88,740 children in Houston that do not know when their next meal is coming, ranking Harris County as the 2nd highest among child food insecurity in The United States – an average of 1 out of 4 preschoolers. Kids' Meals bridges that gap for families who have little means of obtaining meals on a regular basis for their preschool-age children.
