Ship Owners and Fleet Managers Meet Ship Recyclers in Europort Istanbul 2015

Seminar on ship recycling during leading maritime exhibition in Turkey  

On Thursday 12 March 2015 Europort Istanbul hosts the ISRA Ship Recycling Seminar & Matchmaking, which is organized by the International Ship Recycling Association (ISRA). During this seminar ship owners and fleet managers are invited to meet and discuss with ship recyclers. Europort Istanbul, the leading maritime exhibition in Turkey, will take place from 11 - 14 March 2015 at the Istanbul Expo Center. 

Sending a ship for scrapping is not something a ship owner does very often and good information on the financial options and company consequences are crucial. A ship owner has to decide whether to outsource the demolition process to a broker and/or cash buyer or if he prefers to stay in charge himself. Furthermore he needs to take into account the environmental impact of demolition and how this may reflect on the company's corporate image.

IMO Hong Kong Convention & EU Regulation 

New ship recycling legislation being implemented will also have a large impact on ship owners. The IMO Hong Kong Convention, but also the European Regulation, aims to ensure that ships, when being recycled after reaching the end of their operational lives, do not pose any unnecessary risk to human health and safety or to the environment. New legislation will cover the design, construction, operation and preparation of ships. Ship owners have to facilitate safe and environmentally sound recycling, without compromising the safety and operational efficiency of vessels.
