CHICAGO, Oct. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Shiftgig, the mobile technology platform that connects businesses with vetted, hourly workers, today announced 45 percent of organizations are increasing their use of on-demand labor, with the need for greater business agility as their top concern (71 percent). The survey findings are part of Ardent Partners' 2017-2018 State of Contingent Workforce Management report, available through Shiftgig here.
Ardent Partners estimates that 40 percent of today's total workforce is considered flexible, including temporary labor, professional services, independent contractors and on-demand workers. Businesses can no longer afford to view their workforce in silos, and 73 percent of respondents shared that they examine their total talent pool when determining how work will get done. Further, 56 percent of companies are leveraging online talent platforms.
Christopher Dwyer, Ardent Partners' Vice President of Research, explained online talent platforms "serve as real-time networks in which flexible/non-employee workers and businesses can connect." He added that "Most of these platforms specialize in specific areas or verticals (such as field service, industrial and blue-collar work), and many utilize unique algorithms to help enterprises determine the best alignment between a project and potential freelancer or non-employee worker."
Talent is increasingly a business's competitive differentiator, and technology becomes a way to further utilize the workforce as an advantage. The report found the top focus areas for today's contingent workforce management programs are to enhance overall talent engagement strategies and leverage more innovative technology (63 and 55 percent respectively).
"Technology has transformed the way we think about employment," said Wade Burgess, CEO, Shiftgig. "With consumer-like interfaces and mobile applications, businesses and workers can connect easily in real time. The real innovation is happening in tying best-of-breed talent platforms together to create what Ardent Partners calls a 'boundary-less' network that is fueling the future of work."
Shiftgig is hosting a webinar to discuss how technology is defining the new world of work with Ardent Partners on Nov. 29. Registration is now open.
