VALENCIA, Calif., Jan. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Shield HealthCare, a leading provider of medical supplies for care at home, is pleased to announce the winners of its 14^th annual "What Makes Caregiving Rewarding" story contest, recognizing the dedicated role of professional and family caregivers. Through this contest, Shield HealthCare provides its caregiving audience a forum to share their stories, inspiring and encouraging others.

The 5 runners-up are: Megan F., caregiver for her grandfather; Linda K., hospice nurse; Danielle B., caregiver for her daughter; Linda S., caregiver for mother and Darla V., caregiver for her son. This year, Shield HealthCare received a total of 493 inspirational stories.

Winners were selected by a panel of three judges:

All winners received an American Express Gift Card and a 1-year subscription to Today's Caregiver Magazine. Shield HealthCare's "What Makes Caregiving Rewarding" story contest is designed to create awareness and recognition of the role of caregivers. Grand prize winner Patricia G. in San Antonio, Texas wrote, "I understand what matters most: that even if Katie never develops to the level of many other children that she develop to the greatest possible level that she can.
