Shernoff Bidart Echeverria Bentley LLP Serves New Public Records Request on Behalf of the Family of Misty Holt-Singh
Includes request for number of times Stockton Police officers used deadly force and discharged weapons from 2005 to 2014
CLAREMONT, Calif., April 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Partner Gregory L. Bentley of Shernoff Bidart Echeverria Bentley LLP filed a new records request today on behalf of the family of Misty Holt-Singh, asking the City of Stockton to provide records on police activity from the last ten years.
The new request seeks, among other information, that the Stockton City Attorney's Office produce all studies, analysis, emails, and memorandums identifying:
- the number of times Stockton Police officers used deadly force from 2005 to 2014;
- the number of times Stockton Police officers discharged weapons from 2005 to 2014;
- the number of people shot by Stockton Police officers from 2005 to 2014;
- the number of people killed by Stockton Police officer gunfire from 2005 to 2014;
- and more.
"As we continue to investigate and evaluate the tragic loss of a wonderful wife and mother, published reports have demonstrated what appears to be a troubling number of officer-involved shootings by the City of Stockton Police Department," said Mr. Bentley. "The large number of officer-involved shootings—including many fatalities—could indicate serious issues with the training, preparation, and culture within the Stockton Police; issues that may have further contributed to Misty's tragic passing. We trust the department will comply with its obligation to produce this important information."
Facts of the Case
On July 16, 2014, 34 Stockton Police Officers fired over 600 bullets at a disabled vehicle with full knowledge that Misty was inside. She was struck at least ten times, instantly causing her death. Of the bullets that struck Misty, every single one was fired by a member of the Stockton Police.
