Sheraton Sand Key Resort to Host the 2014 International Federation Beach Tennis Tournament

CLEARWATER, Fla., May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Beach Tennis Tampa Bay and the Sheraton Sand Key Resort announced today they are hosting the 2014 Sand Key Beach Tennis Open, taking place May 30 through June 1 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort.

Rather new to the United States, Beach Tennis merges volleyball and tennis. It was created over 30 years ago in Italy. No stranger to sports, Clearwater was recently selected as the Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sportstown by Sports Illustrated and the National Recreation and Parks Association.

Steve Culver, Beach Tennis Pro and the Activities Coordinator for Sheraton Sand Key Resort said, "We are very excited to host the 2014 Sand Key Beach Tennis Open; this G-2 event will bring both professional and amateur players from all over the world to compete on our beautiful beach and enjoy our one-of-a-kind resort."

The Clearwater/St. Petersburg Sports Commission will host The Players Party Saturday night at Sheraton Sand Key's Turtle Bar. Other attending sponsors include a Red Bull Wings Team with a DJ on Saturday and Hooters' Ball Girls.

Registration deadline for participating players is Wednesday, May 28. Special block room rates are only available by calling Sheraton Sand Key Resort and notifying reservations that you are with the Beach Tennis Tampa Bay Group. The schedule is:

2:00 pm - Check In - Mixed Advanced & Open Doubles & Junior Doubles
2:30 pm - Pool Play - Mixed Advanced & Open Division & Junior Doubles
7:00-10:00 pm – Complimentary Player's Party w/cash bar - Turtle Bar
