Sheraton Sand Key Resort Partners With Clean the World Program
CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sheraton Sand Key Resort has recently partnered with Clean the World (CTW), a non-profit, charitable organization, who is making a difference in the world by recycling, reducing waste, providing jobs and saving lives.
What happens to the semi-used bars of soap and shampoo at hotels when guests are done using them?
Clean the World Executive Director, Shawn Siepler, asked himself this same question, which sparked his idea to start CTW in March of 2009. Headquartered in Orlando, CTW's mission is simple -- to collect, recycle and re-distribute partially used hotel soap and shampoo around the world to those in need.
Countries all across the globe are threatened daily by illness and death caused by acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease. In an effort to limit these preventable deaths from occurring, CTW aims to save one million lives each year.
The Sheraton Sand Key Resort is 1 of over 100 hotels participating with CTW and the Hotel's "Green Team" is excited for the environmental improvements that the partnership with CTW will give.
Sheraton Sand Key employee and member of the hotel's Green Team, Jamie Hauser, said, "In the month of December alone the Sheraton Sand Key was able to keep 312 lbs of shampoo, soap and conditioner out of the local landfills and help people in need! We are all very proud of what we've been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time."
CTW's donated soap is processed by the Central Care Mission, an organization providing meaningful work for men through a structured program assisting them in Life Management. In addition, CTW has established an international network to distribute the products, and they are willing to work with any organization who can guarantee and prove distribution to people they serve.
The partnership of the Sheraton Sand Key Resort and Clean the World certainly moves both parties one step closer to reaching their goal of preventing the millions of lives lost each year.
