Shell and Stop & Shop Help Greater Boston Customers Save on Fuel
QUINCY, Mass., Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Savvy shoppers in the Greater Boston area have saved on fuel purchases as a result of the Stop & Shop Gas Rewards program. Shell, the No. 1 selling gasoline brand in the U.S., and Stop & Shop teamed up in April 2010 to help customers save at the pump through everyday grocery purchases.
Through the easy-to-use program, customers automatically earn Gas Rewards points on their Stop & Shop card when they shop in their neighborhood store. For every 100 Stop & Shop Gas Rewards points earned, customers save 10¢ per gallon on their next fuel purchase at more than 180 participating Shell stations, up to 35 gallons per purchase.
"At Stop & Shop we are committed to providing value and savings to give our customers the best possible shopping experience," said Joe Kelley, president, Stop & Shop New England Division. "In today's tough economic times, we are excited to continue this on-going program with Shell to help consumers save on essential everyday purchases like fuel."
"Since teaming up with Stop & Shop we are pleased to see so many consumers using their everyday grocery purchases to save at the pump," said Dan Little, North America fuels marketing manager for Shell Oil Products U.S. "Consumers are looking for convenient ways to save, and this program provides them opportunities to get more for their money on high-quality Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines and Shell Diesel. The program has really been a big hit with consumers."
To start taking advantage of the savings, consumers can sign up for a Stop & Shop card today and start earning Gas Rewards points. Customers may redeem their Gas Rewards points at participating Shell stations by using their Stop & Shop card at the pump, swiping the card, or manually entering their card number which will instantly initiate the fuel savings at the pump. Gas Rewards are reflected at the bottom of Stop & Shop receipts as well as online in a customer's "My Stop & Shop" section of www.stopandshop.com and via Stop & Shop's free mobile app. Gas Rewards points expire 30 days from the day they are earned.
To save even more money at the pump this summer and beyond, consumers can also help make a difference by driving smarter. By simply changing how they drive, everyone can make a difference and increase fuel efficiency by following these simple steps to driving, which include
- Perform smart vehicle maintenance before you drive by keeping your engine well tuned, keeping tires inflated to the proper pressure, and repairing any problems immediately. If your car has failed an emissions test or is noticeably out of tune, repairing the problem could improve your gasoline mileage by 4 percent, according to the Department of Energy.
- Practice smart driving behaviors or actions while you're behind the wheel. The Department of Energy estimates speeding and rapid acceleration or breaking can lower your gasoline mileage by 5 percent at lower speeds around town and by 33 percent on the highway.
- Purchase high-quality gasoline products. Lower-quality gasolines can leave harmful carbon deposits or "gunk," which can build up on intake valves and fuel injectors, negatively impacting engine performance, vehicle responsiveness, and reduction of fuel flow and are factors that can lead to reduced fuel economy.
Customers with questions about the Gas Rewards program can call the Stop & Shop Card Hotline at (877) 366-2668 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT or Shell Customer Service at (888)-GO-SHELL to participating Shell locations.
