Shell and Giant Help Mid-Atlantic Customers Save On Fuel
LANDOVER, Md., Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoppers in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. have saved on fuel purchases as a result of the Giant Gas Rewards program. Shell, the No. 1 selling gasoline brand in the U.S., and Giant teamed up in May 2010 to help customers save at the pump through everyday grocery purchases, marking the region's first gas rewards program.
Through the easy-to-use program, customers automatically earn Gas Rewards points on their Giant Card when they shop in their neighborhood store. For every 100 Giant Gas Rewards points earned, customers save 10¢ per gallon on their next fuel purchase at more than 425 participating Mid-Atlantic Shell stations, up to 35 gallons per purchase. Customers may also redeem Gas Rewards points at 14 Giant gas stations.
"At Giant, we've long been committed to providing our customers with the most value and are thrilled that our Gas Rewards program has been such a success. Especially, in this difficult economy, we're proud to work with Shell to help our region save on gas, an essential everyday purchase," said Anthony Hucker, president, Giant Food of Landover, Md.
"Since teaming up with Giant we are pleased to see so many consumers using their everyday grocery purchases to save at the pump," said Dan Little, North America fuels marketing manager for Shell Oil Products U.S. "Consumers are looking for convenient ways to save, and this program provides them opportunities to get more for their money on high-quality Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines and Shell Diesel. The program has really been a big hit with consumers."
Customers may redeem their points at Giant gas stations and participating Shell stations by swiping their Giant Card, manually entering their Card number, or by entering their alternate ID at the pump, which will initiate the price drop. Gas Rewards are reflected at the bottom of Giant receipts as well as online in a customer's "My Giant" section of www.GiantFood.com and via Giant's free mobile app. Gas Rewards points expire 30 days from the day they are earned.
To save even more money at the pump this summer and beyond, consumers can also help make a difference by driving smarter. By simply changing how they drive, everyone can make a difference and increase fuel efficiency by following these simple steps to driving, which include:
- Perform smart vehicle maintenance before you drive by keeping your engine well tuned, keeping tires inflated to the proper pressure, and repairing any problems immediately. If your car has failed an emissions test or is noticeably out of tune, repairing the problem could improve your gasoline mileage by 4 percent, according to the Department of Energy.
- Practice smart driving behaviors or actions while you're behind the wheel. The Department of Energy estimates speeding and rapid acceleration or breaking can lower your gasoline mileage by 5 percent at lower speeds around town and by 33 percent on the highway.
- Purchase high-quality gasoline products. Lower-quality gasolines can leave harmful carbon deposits or "gunk," which can build up on intake valves and fuel injectors, negatively impacting engine performance, vehicle responsiveness, and reduction of fuel flow and are factors that can lead to reduced fuel economy.
Customers with questions about the Gas Rewards program can call the Giant Card Hotline at (877) 366-2668 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT or Shell Customer Service at (888)-GO-SHELL to participating Shell locations.
