Shegerian & Associates: Top California Democratic Party Chair Investigated for Sexual Misconduct
NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES, Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Democratic Party is investigating Chairman Eric Bauman for sexual misconduct, following one of his deputies calling for his removal.
The vice-chair of the CA Democratic Party, Daraka Larimore-Hall, filed paperwork to initiate Bauman's removal. Larimore-Hall sent a letter to the party stating that he had heard of multiple incidents accusing Bauman of sexual harassment and in some cases sexual assault, during Party functions.
Bauman was elected the state Democratic Party's Chairman in 2017. He went on leave on Monday, November 26th, after the accusations were made.
Carney Shegerian, the founder of Shegerian & Associates, a Los Angeles-based employee rights firm, has weighed in on the investigation into Bauman.
"It's critical that organizations take action to conduct internal investigations when allegations are made. This reinforces the notion that employees should not be afraid to speak up and bring awareness to sexual harassment and assault in the workplace," Shegerian says.
Christine Pelosi, chairwoman of the California Democratic Party Women's Caucus, called Bauman's decision to take a leave of absence a "good first step."
Now, it is up to the California Democratic Party to conduct a thorough investigation.
