Shaw Floors Achieves Guinness World Records(R) Honor for Largest Pie Fight
- Anso(R) nylon survives 1,200 flying pies; Event demonstrates carpet's stain resistance -
ATLANTA, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Shaw Floors, the world's largest carpet manufacturer and a leading flooring provider, successfully achieved the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS designation for the world's Largest Pie Fight during the company's Dallas market event on Jan. 7. The history-making spectacle involved 434 participants as well as 1,200 cherry, chocolate and apple pies. The company held the pie fight on its premium Anso nylon carpet as a way to demonstrate Anso nylon's superior ability to repel stains and to be easily cleaned. Following the world-record event, Shaw cleaned approximately 3,000 pounds of pie from the carpet and displayed the previously pie-covered results in the lobby of the Embassy Suites in Grapevine, Texas, the site of the event.

"We can't wait to tell consumers that Anso nylon survived the world's Largest Pie Fight," said Shaw President Randy Merritt. "Although we weren't surprised at all by the positive performance of Anso nylon, we're thrilled that the pie fight will help consumers fully appreciate the stain-repelling power of the carpet. Consumers will understand that if a carpet can hold up to 1,200 pies, it will stand up to everyday life."
Shaw's GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS achievement shattered the previous Largest Pie Fight record of 269 participants, which was set by the television show "LIVE! With Regis and Kelly" on Sept. 17, 2009. GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Adjudications Manager Danny Girton Jr. was on site to verify the Largest Pie Fight designation and presented Shaw with a certificate recognizing the achievement. Video footage of Shaw's pie fight festivities, certificate presentation, post-event carpet cleaning and the surviving, spotless carpet can be viewed at www.shawfloors.com/anso/piefight.
Shaw's world record accomplishment complements the company's new Anso nylon marketing campaign, "Anso? Hope so.", which focuses on the cleanability and durability of the carpet brand. Shaw will celebrate the Largest Pie Fight achievement throughout 2010, and the company is producing a variety of pie fight-related point-of-sale materials including posters, banners, product medallions and an in-store video, which will be available later this month, enabling thousands of Shaw retailers to commemorate the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS honor.
"The 'Anso? Hope so.' campaign is all about the confidence consumers should have in the stain-resistance properties of Anso nylon carpet, and the world's Largest Pie Fight illustrated this same confidence, only on a larger scale," said Shaw's Director of Anso Nylon Mike Leary. "The pie fight is a great survival story for Anso nylon, and it makes a compelling case to both consumers and retail sales associates for why Anso nylon is the premier carpet fiber on the market."
In connection with the pie fight event, Shaw is making a monetary donation to a local affiliate of Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic-relief hunger charity. The company's donation will provide up to 70,000 meals for hungry Americans.
