DENVER, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In an era of dramatic real estate fluctuation and shrinking budgets, nonprofits are increasingly turning to shared workspace to meet occupancy needs. When done effectively, shared spaces not only leverage limited resources, but expand nonprofits' impact on the communities they serve. This week Denver hosts the NonprofitCenters Network's 2013 Building Opportunities Conference where speakers represent the most innovative public/private partnerships in neighborhood development nationwide.

Denver Shared Spaces (DSS) is on the leading edge of this national trend toward intentional, shared workspace. As an innovative collaborative dedicated to providing technical assistance and targeted support to the Denver shared space community, DSS is not just connecting organizations with shared space resources, but also influencing policy within city government.
In August 2012, the City of Denver enacted Executive Order 138, the only widespread City policy in the country that weaves shared space integrally into city policy. Since then, city agencies have taken significant steps integrating shared space models into planning and funding strategies.
"We are delighted to be hosting the NonprofitCenters Network Conference in Denver. As a city who has embraced shared space, it is an incredible opportunity to have so many leaders from all over North America convening for a week of deep intersection and learning in our community," stated Dace West, Director of the Denver Office of Strategic Partnerships.
Nonprofits, real estate professionals and foundations are applying shared space models across the country; however, Denver is one of the only metro areas using an integrated approach to apply the model to city planning, grantmaking, and commercial real estate development. With more than 25 self-identified shared space centers in metro Denver, the city is ahead of the curve.
