JI'NAN, China, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- East China's Shandong Province plans to promote 600 major projects in an effort to foster 10 industries as the new economic growth drivers at the upcoming first Shandong Conference on Confucian Entrepreneurship, according to a local official.
"Some 1,200 representatives have confirmed attendance to the event, 70 percent of whom come from other provincial-level regions, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign countries," said Sun Laibin, deputy chief of the provincial office for accelerating shift of growth drivers, when briefing the press on the preparation for the conference on September 25.
The event is slated to take place in Shandong's capital city Ji'nan on September 28-30. Revolving around transforming old economic development drivers to new ones, the conference will launch 11 forums to showcase investment climate and incentives and exchange information on the latest technological innovations and emerging business trends.
"Foremost research institutions, prestigious academicians and experts, specialists and representatives from companies of Fortune Global 500 and private sectors will meet and share their wisdom on how to better facilitate the conversion of economic growth drivers and achieve high-quality development," said Sun.
Agreements on 130 projects with a total contract value of 536.62 billion yuan will be signed during the conference. "All projects should be carried out in one year. And a follow-up mechanism will be established to track and supervise the implementation," Sun illustrated.
High-end talents will bolster high-quality development. The Shandong Conference on Confucian Entrepreneurship will represent not only a huge gathering of business partners, but also a platform for attracting global talents to settle down in Shandong. "To substantiate the 536.62-billion-yuan projects, there should be researchers and experts who have core technologies and independent intellectual property rights," said Li Boping, provincial chief of human resources.
An online platform for investment and recruitment is to be launched at the opening ceremony of Conference. By means of cloud computing, big data, and other technologies, demands and supplies of potential projects, talents and capitals in the 10 major industries and over 180 industrial development parks in 17 cities across the province have been integrated on the platform. Visitors are able to select specific business sector, investment intent, recruitment description or other preferences to find a perfect match. The online service is available both on laptops and mobile devices.
The organizing committee of the Conference has established a talent pool specifying information on some 2,000 experts and researchers and released more than 1,500 key job vacancies in 539 organizations and companies. There will also be a pamphlet explaining incentives and career prospects for high-level talents to work in Shandong. The local government also encourages businesses to take the initiative and explore partnerships with academicians in terms of commercializing their technological achievements.
To keep the investment and talents attracted via the platform, Shandong proposed a long-acting mechanism by institutionalizing the conference as a biennial event. With the secretariat for the Conference on Confucian Entrepreneurship as a standing body when the event is not on, competent government departments and leading business insiders will convene special committees on topics like business and commerce, technology, education, tourism, healthcare, finance and young startups. Each committee will launch exchange programs on a regular basis and offer services to facilitate entrepreneurial endeavors.
The 2018 Conference on Confucian Entrepreneurship sends a robust signal to the whole nation and the entire world that Shandong is determined to open wider to the outside world and spares no efforts in attracting businesses and talents for high-quality development, according to local government.
In January, the State Council, China's cabinet, approved Shandong's action plan to build itself as a comprehensive pilot zone with the specific purpose of transforming old economic development drivers to new ones, upgrading the construction of the zone to a national strategy. Shandong is expected to trial new practices in restructuring the economy and gain replicable experiences for the rest of China.
To this end, the province plans to foster 10 industries as new drivers for economic growth. In specific, the 10 industries cover five emerging sectors, namely new-generation information technology, high-end equipment, new energy and new materials, modern maritime industry and medical and healthcare services. The remaining five industries include green chemicals, modern high-efficiency agriculture, cultural creativity, tourism and modern finance, which will be upgraded from traditional industrial base into a more environmentally-friendly development path.
"To gain new competitive advantages in developing Shandong's open economy, it is imperative to promote the Confucian entrepreneurship in the new era and give full play to the role of entrepreneurs," said Sun.
Home to the birthplace of Chinese ancient great philosopher Confucius, Shandong has a profound history and a rich culture. Besides inviting businesspeople of Shandong descendants back to contribute for the prosperity of their hometown, the event will also exhibit traditional handicrafts, cultural heritage and the hospitality of local people.
The themes of the 2018 Conference on Confucian Entrepreneurship include "Great Way to Confucian Entrepreneurship: Integrity and Credibility," and "New Era, New Growth Drivers, New Confucian Entrepreneurs and New Vision." Throughout the event, various exchange programs will be held in all 17 cities across Shandong Province.
